Children Design New Finnish Coins

100 years of Finland’s independence from Russia will be celebrated in 2017 with the release of a silver €10 coin and a gold €100 coin on 3rd January 2017. The obverse of the silver coin features 15-year-old Saara Peltomaki’s design of Finland surrounded by the growth rings of a tree. The reverse features 16-year-old Jennifer Tuomisto’s design that depicts two clasped hands, one black and one white.The silver coin weighs 10 grams, has a mintage limit of 10,000 pieces and can be purchased for €38. 100 coins will be numbered on the reverse. The obverse of the Proof .9167 fine gold coin’s reverse depicts Finland’s population growth during its years of independence while the reverse features a mosaic forming a cartographic image of Finland. The gold coin weighs 5.65 grams and has a mintage limit of 3,000 pieces. 100 numbered gold coins were sold out immediately after its release on 5th December. Non-numbered gold coins are still available for €529.
