Heritage’s Latest World Paper Money Auction Highlights

The total sale of the world paper currency sale by Heritage Auctions’ from 7th to 9th December amounted to $1,292,350 in sales for 1,092 lots. Asian banknotes were the highlight during the auction. Two rare Chinese People’s Republic 10-yuan notes of 1953, both graded About New 58 Premium Paper Quality was sold for $35,850 and $40,630. A Government of Straits Settlements $50 note graded Currency Very Fine 35 PPQ featuring the date 24.9.1925 was auctioned for $26,920. A Deutsch-Asiatische Bank of Shanghai $200 remainder note of July 1, 1914, graded Choice Uncirculated 64 was sold for $25,095.

A solid serial number 888888 Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation $500 note of 11th February 1968, graded Choice Uncirculated 64 Exceptional Paper Quality was sold for $23,900. The first Bhutan paper money with the highest denomination, a 500-ngultrum note from 1978, graded Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ, with staple holes, was sold for $21,510. A Russo-Asiatic Bank Harbin $500 note of 1910 overprinted on a 500-tael note for the Tientsin Russo-Chinese Bank, graded AU-50 was auctioned for $20,912.50.
