Mubarak Shah’s Coin Sold for INR 1, 50,000

Sayyid dynasty was founded by Sayyid Khirz Khan in 1414. His son Muiz ud din Mubarak Shah was a well-known ruler of his time.

The Sayyids ruled Delhi after defeating the Tughluq dynasty. They claimed to be the descendants of Prophet Muhammad.

Muiz ud din Mubarak Shah for the first seven years did not issue any coins in his own name; he continued with posthumous types of Firuz Tughluq and Muhammad bin Firuz. In the later stage, he started issuing the coins in his own name.

One of his silver tanka was sold for INR 1, 50,000 at Rajgor’s Auction in their 36th auction. This coin minted in Hadrat Delhi weighs around 11.2g. The obverse of the coin is inscribed as “Fi-Ahad Al-Sultan Al-Ghazi Al-Mutawakkil Ala Al-Rahman Mubarak Shah Sultan” and reverse of the coin is inscribed as “Fi Zaman Al-Imam Amir Al-Muminin Khulidat Khilafatuhu, with the date 837 at the bottom.
