2016-12-12 Mon
The English Civil War (1642-1651) was responsible for the loss of several lives and personal wealth. A hoard more than 1000 350-year-old silver coins from this era was discovered in Lincolnshire, England by a metal detector named Steven Ingram. The coins struck between 16th and 17th century, were stored in a ceramic pot and buried. Experts state that the area was known for conflicts between the Parliamentarians and the Royalists. The coins were probably hidden near the “front line” of the fighting.
It was the largest hoard ever found from this era, consisting of coins issued by King Edward VI, Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Mary, King James I, and King Charles I etc. The Coins might have been buried by someone who went to fight but never came back.
