The teeming wildlife and nature are well depicted on the banknotes of 2011 series. The obverse of this series has famous personalities of the country along with some landmark events and places in the background.

The reverse celebrates the wild nature at its best!

5000 Colones banknotes feature the mangroves species with the monkey, the red mangroves, and crabs! In Costa Rica there are seven species of mangrove trees and of the mangroves found in Costa Rica, the red mangrove is the most easily recognized with its striking aerial prop roots.

The 20,000 and 50,000 Colones note celebrates our little-winged friends! The prior depicts the Hummingbird along with the rich flora of the nation and the latter depicts the beautiful Morpho butterfly along with the umbrella mushrooms!

Isn’t it the most amazing way to create awareness about a nation’s flora and fauna? And obviously, such notes are also very beautiful to look at and collect!
