Bengal Sultanate Nasir Al Din Mahmud Coin Sold for INR 60,000

Nasir Al Din Mahmud (AH 837-864; AD 1433-1459) was the sultan of Bengal. He was the descendant of Shamsuddin Ilyas Shah of Bengal. He took the title Nasiruddin Abul Muzaffar Mahmud Shah when he ascended to the throne.Nasir Al Din Mahmud issued coins in various types and varieties. Most of his coins have the normal inscription, but in some coins images with some numbers are also found. The lion tanka which he had issued in the year AH 849 from the various mints is amongst the most prominent coins.
One such Lion type Silver tanka which weighs around 9.9gm, minted in Dar-al-Darb was sold for INR 60,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 3rd February 2016.
The obverse of this coin bears the image of a lion facing right with his paw raised within the circle and the name of the sultan Nasir-ud-Duniya wa ud Din, Abul Muzaffar Mahmud Shah As Sultan written in the margin. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as Al Muayyad Ba Tayid Al-Rahman Khalifat Allah Ba Al Hujjat Wa Al Burhan, with the date 849 at the bottom within the circle. Mint name is written in the margin. This coin is very rare.
