$10 Million 1794 Dollar to Go On Display in January 2017

2016-12-05 Mon

The world’s most expensive coin ever sold at an auction, the SP66 1794 Flowing Hair dollar will be displayed publically for the first time by PCGS from January 5th to 7th 2017 at the Florida United Numismatists (FUN) convention in Fort Lauderdale. The coin is considered to be the first silver dollar struck by the United States.

It is also the only known 1794 U.S. Dollar with a silver plug. The plug was inserted to achieve the standard planchet weight. Out of the 1,758 that were struck on a hand-turned screw press at the Philadelphia Mint on 15th October 1794, only 130 exist today.

It was bought for a record price of $10 million by Spokane business executive Bruce Morelan four years back. The coin is a historical treasure and is something that every collector dreams of owning.
