2017 Year of the Rooster Chinese Almanac Coins Revealed by Singapore

On 28th November, Singapore revealed the designs of the 2017 Year of the Rooster Almanac Coins, the first of the Singapore Fourth Chinese Almanac Coin Series. These coins will be officially released on 1st January 2017.The coins under this series will be issued annually from 2017 to 2028 featuring a zodiac animal. The first coin will feature the Rooster with Singapore’s last surviving village Kampong Buangkok in the background.
Kampong Buangkok was initially a swamp and was later built into a village in 1956. It was home to about 40 families in the 1960s. Even today the area is known for its scenic beauty, peace and tranquillity, but only 28 families live there now.
10 different versions of the coins will be released with different mintage limits including a high relief 1 kg .999 fine silver rectangular coin. Special premium sets of different coin combinations will also be available. The obverse depicts the Singapore Coat of Arms with the year 2017.
