BEP Stops Production of $2 Notes on a Temporary Basis

2016-11-30 Wed

Except for the districts of Richmond and Dallas, $2 notes were printed for all others between May and July 2016. Each district required 6.4 million notes, which is comparatively a smaller number. On 1st July, the BEP officials agreed that twenty $2 note processes would be placed on quality hold.

This was because some new, Uncirculated $2 notes showed increased “soiling” which could affect its durability and reach the shred-threshold. Too dark notes and notes with ink in areas that should not be printed would be considered soiled.

After noticing changes in the sensor software and reading variances, the concern was minimal and the work put on hold could be released soon.
