Hanging Garden: One of the Seven wonders of the Ancient World

Can you imagine that Ancient Babylon (present day in Iraq) had one of the massive gardens in the world? No… Because of the dry climate which makes it merely impossible. But where there is love nothing is impossible.

Nebuchadnezzar II was an able ruler of Babylon and is given the tribute of building the Hanging Garden in 6th Century BCE.

The Garden did not hang in actual but it had an ascending series on a huge tower around which all types of shrubs, bushes and trees were grown. The water was supplied by the near river Euphrates.

This beautiful garden was built for his wife Amyitis, the daughter of the King Medes. The land she came from was very green and this made her very depressed. So to make her feel more lively, Nebuchadnezzar recreated the artificial rooftop garden for her.

It was a massive structure having 400 feet wide by 400 feet long and also believed to be one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.

The Republic of the Congo issued a stamp showing an imaginary Hanging Garden of Babylon of 50 Franc.
