Artist Otto Dix on Latest German Collector Coin

Germany is soon going to release a new €20 silver coin celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of famed artist Otto Dix (1891–1969), known for the style of Neue Sachlichkeit or “The New Objectivity.” This art form became popular in the 1920s against Expressionism, which began before the First World War and reached its heights in Berlin during the 1920s.

The obverse features a self-portrait of Dix along with his famous print Modern Dancers. A pictorial quotation of the main motif of Dix’s work and his signature are also depicted over the main portrait. Another inscription reads 125. GEBURTSTAG OTTO DIX (“125th Birthday of Otto Dix”).

The reverse features a stylized eagle with the text BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND (“Federal Republic of Germany”), the mintmark G of the State Mint of Baden-Württemberg, the year 2016, 12 stars of the European Union, SILBER 925, coin’s denomination of 20 / EURO and the the inscription DU MUSST ALLES SELBER SEIN! (“You must all be yourself!”)
