The Real Pirate of the Caribbean

Don’t get it wrong but here we are not talking about the movie Pirates of the Caribbean starring Johnny Depp, but the real hero of the Caribbean Sea, ‘Edward Teach’. He was born in 1680 in England and is popularly known as Blackbeard.

He was a notorious pirate in the Caribbean Sea during the Golden Age of Piracy.

To capture the Blackbeard, Alexander Spotswood –The governor of Virginia assigned Robert Maynard. After a long battle, Blackbeard was killed brutally on 22nd November 1718.

The picture aside is a commemorative stamp issued by Grenada in 1970 having the face value of 15 cents. The stamp portraits the Blackbeard and perfectly features his fearsome face with that typical sea faring cap and a long robe.

We don’t want to scare you but this is how he actually looked. And similarly, the personality of the pirate kings is depicted in movies and comics these days.

He plundered all wealthy ships, food, liquor and expensive materials and also is portrayed in the stamp.

So if you are a big fan of Pirates and their evil looks, this notorious stamp is worth collecting.
