India Celebrates 2600 years of Coinage.

24th December is declared as National Numismatics Day! On the occasion of 101st birth anniversary of Dr. Parameshwari Lal Gupta this Day is declared as National Numismatic Day. Dr. Parmeshwari Lal Gupta (1914-2001) was one of the founding fathers of the discipline of Numismatics in India.The meaning of the word Numismatics is “the study of coins”. The work of Dr. P L Gupta opened new dimensions in the field of research and studies in the field of Numismatics. Extensive research works were later conducted that opened unrevealed course of history.
He was the author of the most famous book called “Coins” which is considered as the most notable contribution in the field of Numismatics. Every stage of Indian coinage s consolidated in this book. No other work gives such promising information collected in one piece of work.
Thus, his 101st Birth Anniversary on 24 December this year will mark the beginning of commemorating of the National Numismatic Day each year.
