Latest Ukrainian Coin Features A Wolf

Ukraine issued three new coins under the series “Cultural Monuments in Ukraine,” on 9th November. The coins celebrate wildlife, fauna, personalities, literature, and legends of Ukraine. The second coin features the Wolf or the Canis lupus. They are portrayed as lone creatures and also live in packs. They have also inspired many folklore, legends, and literature works.

Canidae is the largest animals of the dog family. They are powerful, intelligent, social animals who live in timbered of Ukraine, except very southern regions such as the Crimea. Wolves mostly hunt in pairs or packs and at night.

The obverse features a face of the wolf and a portion of the 12th to the 13th century AD settlement bracelet from the Mezin Paleolithic settlement in the Chernigiv region of Ukraine and the inscription ???? (“wolf”).

The reverse features the State Emblem of Ukraine, the word “Ukraine”, the year of issue 2016. The denomination 5 ???????, a rhyton (drinking horn) made of an aurochs horn, from the site of the “Black Grave” burial mound; two wolves fighting. Some segments of the coin are plated in gold.
