Birth Anniversary of a Musical legend, Mohammed Rafi

Mohammed Rafi was born today, 24 December in a small village of Punjab. He was an Indian playback singer and one of the most popular singers of the Hindi film industry.Rafi was notable for his versatility and for his ability to mould his voice to the persona of the actor, lip-synching the song.
Between 1950 and 1970, Rafi was the most sought after singer in the Hindi film industry. He received six Film fare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, he was also honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India.
A special stamp was issued by India Post on May 2003 to commemorate the Maestros with the golden voices of the Golden era of the Indian Film Industry. These commemoratives have Mohammed Rafi along with Kishore Kumar, Mukesh and Hemant Kumar depicted on it. These stamps were dedicated to the great singers of the Hindi film industry whose melodious songs will always remain in our hearts forever.
The stamps were issued on May 15 at a show organized by Swar Sansar, at Siri Fort auditorium, New Delhi. The special stamps each cost Rs five with an additional Rs. two each for first day covers. A set of all the four stamps costs Rs 20. The Miniature sheet has been priced at Rs 20 each.
