The ink on a new Clydesdale Bank £5 polymer note can be removed with a pencil eraser. Other interesting experiments were also conducted earlier where the notes were baked and fried which made them shrink in size.

A print center manager named Stuart McLean conducted the most recent experiment on a new Clydesdale Bank £5 note with a pencil eraser. Only serial numbers and the see-through hologram remained and all other designs were erased.

One of the notes he had a dirty mark. He used a pencil eraser to rub it out and found out that the ink also faded away. He continued doing it until one side became completely white. The same was the case with the England polymer £5 note.

A De La Rue spokesperson said that this was a case of excessive and abnormal activity. Under normal conditions, the banknotes will not be subjected to such kind of an activity.
