International Stamp Exhibition in Jerusalem

2016-11-07 Mon

On 13th November, a five-day open-for-all international stamp exhibition would be held at Jerusalem International Convention Centre. Modern means of communication has led to the decline of postage service and philately. It is still passionately followed by some people by exchanging information about stamps and their collection over the internet and social media.

Philatelic Service of the Israel Postal Company would be issuing a special stamp to mark this occasion remembering the fifth president of Israel, Yitzhak Navon, who died one year back. A personalized “My Stamp” sheet by actor Chaim Topol, President Reuven Rivlin, singer and actor Yehoram Gaon and former MK Geula Cohen will also be offered.

Thousands of stamps would be on display at the exhibition. Apart from experienced stamp collectors, students and new collectors are also encouraged to attend the event. Present surprises and activities are organised for the young. Medallions will be awarded to collectors who have a good collection.

Philately federations from the US, Germany, Hungary and Spain will be offered, as well as collections from France, Brazil, New Zealand, South Africa, Ukraine and Slovakia which have subjects related to Israeli stamps.

Organisers of the event said that a passionate stamp collector is not worried about the profits earned, but would want to attend interesting exhibitions anywhere in the world.

The State of Israel was established within 2 days after the Arab armies attacked in 1948. Israel has produced 2,200 different stamps and has 9 prominent international philately judges. Israeli stamps come with printed explanations. 1948 to 1952 stamps are very rare and highly sought after.
