What’s in Store in 2017 at U.S Mint?

2016-11-05 Sat

An American Liberty gold coin in high relief and many silver medals with unique finishes from different minting facilities are going to be the highlights of 2017. Reverse proof coins might be struck in 2018 at San Francisco Mint. These details were revealed by U.S. Mint officials during the 2016 Numismatic Forum.

Some of them are termed as "high profile products” while the others are commemorative coins and annual issues. U.S. Mint’s 225th anniversary will be celebrated with the release of the 2017-W $100 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin and companion medal(s) on 2nd April 2017. The final designs were reviewed in March by the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC).

A special set named the 225th Enhanced Uncirculated Set would also be offered which could include 4 silver medals, each with a different collector finish and produced at a different U.S. Mint facility. The design would be similar to the 2016 American Liberty Silver Medal, without the standard coin inscriptions and with additional mint marks.

Proof American Platinum Eagles that will be issued from 2018 to 20120 will feature different obverses but share the same reverse. Candidate designs were officially published in September.
