Coins of Maharana Sangramsingh as Ruler of Malwa

Copper square coins were issued by Rana Sangramsingh. He was Rana of Mewar and also head of the Hindu Rajput confederacy during the 16th century. Rana Sanga ruled between 1508 and 1528.Square coins were struck in Mewar during the reign of Rana Kumbha. Rana Kumbha also known as Kumbhakarna Singh had ruled Mewar between 1433 and 1468.
Square copper coins of Rana Sanga are inscribed with his name in Nagari on the obverse and Persian legend on the reverse. Some coins have heart shaped mint mark which is associated with Chanderi.
This copper Fulus coin which weighs around 8.2gm, the obverse is inscribed in Devanagari as “Sri Rana Sangram Sahi”. The reverse is inscribed in the Persian as “Al Sultan bin Al Sultan” with the heart shaped in the second line on the Persian alphabet “sin” of the word ‘Sultan’.
