Coin of the First Tsar of Russia

This one Rouble silver coin of Russia was issued during the reign of Emperor Peter I.

Peter-I was the first emperor of Russia. He was also known as ‘Peter the Great’. He first ruled as the Tsardom of Russia and later as The Russian Empire. Peter-I pulled out Russia from the Middle age to an extent that after his death in 1725 Russia was considered a leading eastern European state.

This silver coin of Emperor Peter I was minted in 1705. Its obverse depicts the Bust of the Emperor facing right with a continuous legend in Cyrillic script reads "Tsar Pyotr Alexeyevich All-Russia Sovereign” within the toothed rim.

The reverse features a crown above the double headed eagle and legend in Cyrillic script reads “Good coin, Price - Ruble 1705” within the toothed rim.

Peter the great is given the credit of establishing a centralised government in Russia with a modernised army as well as Russian navy. His domestic policies helped in executing the aggressive foreign policy. Till date many of Emperor Peter I policy are the base of the modern Russian government today.
