A unique stamp issued by Swiss Post celebrates the 'animal of the year'. Issued in the year of 2012 by the Swiss Post the stamp features the brown long-eared bat.The brown long-eared bat is a small European bat with distinctive ears. This species appears to prefer caves as roosting sites, but are also found at roosts in trees holes, buildings and bat boxes, as well.
Because of its uniqueness, this distinctive species was declared as the animal of the year in 2012. Hence, Swiss Post has come up with this unusual stamp featuring the animal of the year.
The stamp is perforated in the shape of a bat and is printed using a double print technique, which gives a 3d effect and makes the bat image appear lifelike to the human eye. The stamp comes with the denomination of 100 Swiss Francs and is printed on a striking background showing beautiful night time forest.
