BCR Peru Launches New Coin Featuring Traditional Vicus Ceramics

The Banco Central de la Reserva de Peru has launched a new coin. This coin is part of the Proud and Rich Numismatic Coin series and 23rd in the collection. The new sol coin has been released today and it features the traditional Vicus culture ceramics from the northern region of Peru which come from Piura and date back to between 1000/200 BCE to 300/600 CE. The coin weighs 7.32 grams and measures 25.50 mm in diameter. The obverse features a composition of two pieces of pottery designed in the Vicus tradition. The reverse of the coin bears the Coat of Arms and the year of issue – 2015 – inscribed in a polygonal design.The coin is legal tender and will be circulated simultaneously with current coins.
