Evolution of Mickey Mouse on French Coins

On 7th October, France issued a special set of coins celebrating the world’s most popular and lovable cartoon mouse, Mickey Mouse. The five-coin series depicts the evolution of Mickey Mouse, ever since it was introduced on silver screen 90 years ago.

Two coloured silver coins and three gold coins have been released, each of the design highlighting the important changes that were made to the character along with a special scene from the cartoon depicted in the background. The common inscription on all the coins is “Mickey Through the Ages” (MICKEY A TRAVERS LES AGES) which marks the 88th anniversary of Mickey Mouse in 2016. Other inscriptions include the Disney copyright insignia and the inscription RF. The reverse features the latest portrayal of Mickey Mouse with a background that is similar to that of the obverse design. MICKEY, the denomination and 2016 are the other inscriptions that appear on the obverse.

The obverse of this 10 €uro .900 pure silver coin depicts Mickey Mouse in Colour as he was created by Walt Disney in 1928. The mintage limit of this 22.2 Proof coloured coin is 3,000.

The obverse of the 50 €uro .950 Pure Silver coin depicts the evolution of the character from 1928 to present day. The mintage limit of this 163.8 g proof coloured coin is 500.

The obverse of the 50 €uro gold coin features Mickey Mouse from the short film Mickey’s Nightmare in 1932. The mintage limit of this 8.45 g Proof .920 Gold Coin is 1,000.

The obverse of the 200 €uro coin features Mickey from his second short film, Steamboat Willie, produced in 1928, which made the character world famous. The mintage limit of this 31.10 g Proof .999 Pure Gold coin is 500.

The obverse of the 500 €uro depicts the very first design of Mickey Mouse from the short animated silent film Plane Crazy Produced in 1928. The mintage limit of this 155.5 g .999 Pure Gold coin is 99.
