‘World Peace’ stamp of India

2016-10-24 Mon

The World War II was the most disastrous war ever seen by Humankind. The people were horrified with the war. After the end of the war, there was an urge for bringing something which can look and control the security of the entire nations with some rules and regulation.

Seeing the failure of the League of Nations, a better and more responsible organization was needed to secure peace in the world. Hence on 24th October 1945, a new organization was established called as United Nations Organization (UNO). The main motto of the UNO is ‘world peace’.

The objective and purpose of UNO are security and peacekeeping, promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character. Currently, there are 193 members of UNO and India is one of them!

In order to celebrate a new order of peace and security, this day of 24th October is celebrated as the United Nations Day every year!

A beautiful Turquoise-green commemorative stamp was issued by India Post on 24th Oct 1954. It depicts the emblem of the UNO with its date of the issue below. A lotus is seen on the right, which is the national flower of India and stands for purity!

‘United Nations Day’ and “Samyuktta Rashtra Divas” is written in English and Hindi respectively. The face value of the stamp is 2 Anna. Many other nations too have issued stamps honouring this organization like Great Britain, Qatar, Germany, etc.

In the 21st century, we believe the mission of the United Nations is defined by a new and more profound awareness of the sanctity and dignity of every human life, regardless of race or religion.

However, the responsibility of keeping peace can’t be just given to any governments or organizations. It is each individual’s responsibility to ‘live and let live’.

‘You are born as Human so behave like a Human, show mercy and kindness.’

Let’s pledge to spread peace in and around our Nations!
