Ghiyath Al-Din Muhammad Damghan (740/741-745; AD 1340-1344) was the Sultan of Madura. He was the fourth ruler of Madura kingdom. He was the Successor of Qutb Al-Din Firuz Shah. He struck coins in gold, silver, and copper. All the gold coins struck by him are extremely rare. His gold Heavy Tanka was struck in the standard weight of 12gm.One of his gold Heavy Tanka which weighs around 11.9gm was sold for the whopping price of INR 6, 00,000 at Todywalla Auction held in Mumbai on 3rd February 2016. The Obverse side of the coin is inscribed as “Al-Sultan Al-Azam Ghiyath Al-Dunya Wa-al-Din Abul-Muzaffar Damghan Shah-Al-Sultan” and the reverse of the coin is depicted as “Sikandar Al-Thani Yamin Al-Khilafa Nasir Amir Al-Mu-minin” written within the circle; Mint name Daulatabad and Date 744 (in words) written in the margin. Here mint name Daulatabad doesn’t refer to the mint in Deccan but to the mint situated in Madurai itself.
