What’s the 50th Annual Fresno Coin Show Offering

2016-10-22 Sat

Fresno Numismatic Society’s 50th annual Fresno Coin Show would be held on 22nd October and 23rd October. A Clovis numismatist named James Obler is the vice president of the club who has a 2,300-year-old silver coin featuring the Greek demigod Hercules.

He states that all U.S. coins ever minted are still legal tender at face value which means a 1797 silver dollar would fetch you something that is worth 1 dollar in today’s times. Bur in the world of numismatics, the coin is actually worth $4,000.

The Fresno Numismatic Society has around 80 members. The club is also celebrating its 70th Anniversary. Over 20 dealers would take part in the event and a scavenger hunt will be organised for children.

Obler started collecting coins when he was 8 years old and today he has a lot of rare U.S. coins, out of which the most valuable one is a $10 Liberty Cap gold piece worth $20,000. This $10 coin contained $10.30 worth of gold, which is why they were melted down to resell the gold. Mints stopped making the coins in 1803. Obler explains that you could get lucky any time and find a rare coin out of nowhere. He suggests to observe the change in your pocket once in a while.
