HMS Discovery on Canadian Gold Coin

The last coin of the Royal Canadian Mint’s series Tall Ships Legacy, released on 4th October celebrated HMS Discovery which as the name suggests discovered various aspects about Canada, the West Coast of North America, and the United States.

The reverse depicts HMS Discovery during her 1791–1795 expedition in the Pacific. The three-masted ship sails along the rugged, tree-lined coast of British Columbia. The ship’s rudder and her stern chasers are seen above the water. The captain’s cabin and stern decorations are also depicted beautifully with the British Royal Navy flag flapping in the wind. The starboard side shows the wooden barque’s unique details of her rigging.

The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II design by Susanna Blunt with the inscriptions 200 DOLLARS.
