New Mint Master’s Insignia on Belgian Medal

2016-10-10 Mon

The newly appointed mint master of The Royal Belgian Mint in April, Ingrid Van Herzele was honoured with her name inscribed on special silver and cupro-nickel medals. The new mintmark will be included on Royal Belgian Mint coins and medals issued during her tenure.

Before this designation, she worked at Belgium’s Department of Finance and Treasury. She chose the arms of her hometown Herzele as her mint master insignia on the medal.

The obverse features the 13th or 14th-century castle Herzele, which was lost by Lord Peter of Melun after the war between Spain and the Protestant-minded Flemish. In 1969, the town of Herzele bought the castle ruins and restored it. The reverse features the mint master’s name and the coat of arms of Herzele.

There is no mintage limit for the Cupro-nickel 22.0 g Select BU medal and the mintage limit of the .925 silver 22.8 g Proof medal would depend on the demand.
