Czech President Vaclav Havel Remembered on Medals

The Check republic released a new set of medals remembering Vaclav Havel (1936–2011) who is considered to be one of the most loved presidents of the country. He was a playwright and a dissident during the communist era in Czechoslovakia who fought dedicatedly for human rights and democracy. Three different roles played by him have been depicted on three different medals.

The reverse design of the Playwright role coin features the text DRAMATIK and a collection of words from Havel’s works. The obverse features him with reading glasses.

The reverse design of the Dissident role coin has the text DISIDENT and two fingers making the famous peace sign. The obverse features him with a disorderly hairstyle.

The reverse design of the President role coin features a linear skyline of downtown Prague, the word PREZIDENT, and the historical St. Wenceslas Square. The obverse features him with a necktie and a formal suit.

The mintage limit of the .999 Silver 16 g Proof coin is 1,000 sets and that of the .999 Gold 7.76 g Proof coin is 400 sets.

The medal sets were launched on the 80th birth anniversary of Havel (October 5, 1936). The funds generated through the sale of these medals would be donated to the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97.
