Nasir Al-Din Mahmud Shah I (862-917; AD 1458-1511) was a sultan of Gujarat. He had struck large number of coins during his reign. Coins which were struck by him are in Gold, silver, and copper. Few billion coin struck by him are also found. Nasir Al-Din Mahmud Shah I had also got the title ‘Begada’. ‘Be’ means Two and ‘Gada’ means Fort. Hence the word ‘Begada’ means master of two impregnable forts - Champaner and Junagadh.One of his gold Tanka which weighs around 11.4gm minted in Shahr-i-Mukarram Muhammadabad urf Champaner was sold for INR 2, 00,000 at Classical Numismatic Gallery in their 23rd Auction held on 11th December 2015. This coin reads as “Muhammad Shah Al-Sultan Khallada Khilafatahu’ within the centre circle, mint name, and date 902 in the margin in the obverse and “Al-wathiq Bi-Tayid Al-Rahman Nasir Al Dunya Wa Al Din Abul Fath on the reverse. This coin is very rare with an extremely fine condition.
