World Teacher's Day

The day of October 5th is proclaimed by UNESCO proclaimed to be the World Teachers’ Day. Since 1994, this day is celebrated to honour the teachers all over the world.

After parents, a teacher is held responsible of shaping up a child’s personality as well as its future. A teacher is, not necessarily, the one who stands near a blackboard holding a chalk in hand but may be any person who gives you right direction. Hence, this day is celebrated to honour not only the teachers but also to those who have made a special contribution to a particular community.

The Teacher’s Day celebration marks with conferences emphasizing the importance of teachers and learning. According to UNESCO, World Teachers' Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding, and appreciation displayed for the vital contributions that teachers make to education and development.

Many stamps have been issued by different countries, to commemorate this day. San Marino Post a set of two stamps in 2015 first stamp shows some stylized pupils listening to a teacher holding a book in his hand where as the second stamp shows a teacher showing light of knowledge to the students.

Canada Post celebrated World Teachers’ Day by issuing a 48 cent stamp in Oct 2002 showing silhouette of teacher on blackboard with “teaching = ensignement” written on it. On the other hand the Philippines stamp is based on an old painting. Carrying the denomination of 15philipinos, the stamp depicts “Rizal learning the alphabet and prayers from his mother.”

However, India celebrates Teacher’s Day on 5th September to commemorate the birthday Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan which falls on 5th September.
