New Spanish Coin Celebrates King Charles III’s 300th birth Anniversary

The 300th anniversary of King Charles III who served from 1759 to 1788 was celebrated by Spain with the issue of a Proof .925 fine silver €10 on 26th September. The kingdoms of Naples and of Sicily were captured by Charles III, reigning as Charles VII of Naples and Charles V of Sicily.

Charles III protected his kingdom in Spain by introducing reforms such as weakening the church and its monasteries, promoting science and university research, facilitating trade and commerce, modernizing agriculture and avoiding wars. After his death, Spain got back to the orthodox traditions but his modern reforms are remembered even today. The obverse features a portrait of King Felipe VI who is the current ruler.

The reverse depicts Charles III in the cloak of the grand master that was rewarded people for their beneficial actions towards Spain. The iconic Alcala Gate in Madrid was designed under his regime and he is also nicknamed “Best Mayor of Madrid” for his important contributions during his times to develop his kingdom. The 27 grams silver coin has a mintage limit of 7,500 pieces.
