Born on 29 September 1932, Mehmood Ali aka Memood, was one of the favourite comedians of Indian Film lovers.

Born in the family of a huge star of the 40's and 50's cinema, Mehmood later rose as a famous comedian and singer. As a child, he worked in Bombay films like Kismet. He later had a number of odd jobs, working as a table tennis teacher to Meena Kumari and as a driver for director P. L. Santoshi.

Famous for his slapstick humour, he is immortalized in the song “Ek Chatur Nar” of the Movie Padosan. He played the role of Mahesh – the rikshawala in the iconic movie Kunwara Baap. Memood and his characters still resonate in the hearts of his fans, young and old alike.

India Post issued a special commemorative stamp in the year 2011 in honour of this versatile artist. This stamp of INR 5.00 features Mehmood in three of his most iconic characters.
