2016-09-29 Thu

On 15th September, the U.S. Mint revealed the candidate designs for the proof American Platinum Eagles based on the core American principles of ‘Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness’. Unlike earlier coins, the obverse designs will vary and the reverses would remain the same.

Life would be the theme for 2018 coins, Liberty would be the theme for 2019 coins and Pursuit of Happiness would be the theme for 2020 coins. The common reverse design would have an American eagle with the inscriptions "United States of America", "1 oz.," ".9995 Platinum," and "$100."

10 sets of designs were revealed with a design for each of the years. The designs were reviewed by the Commission of Fine Arts on 15th September and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) reviewed them on 16th September.

The coin design that's shown in the image alongside belongs to “Set 9” for the year 2018. The theme of the set depicts the progression of a female from infancy to adulthood holding an olive branch symbolizing peace along with an American flag. This particular 2018 reverse design features an infant symbolizing "Life" holding an olive branch while the American flag provides a protective environment for life to begin.
