India Commemorates Mars Mission

The day of 24th September is written in golden words in the book of India’s technological advancement. This is the day when India successfully carried out the first interplanetary mission.

The Mars Orbiter Mission also called as Mangalyaan is a proud brainchild of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Launched on November 2013 it is orbiting Mars since 24 September 2014. With this successful mission ISRO has become the fourth space agency to reach Mars, after the Soviet space program, NASA, and the European Space Agency.

This proud moment of India is commemorated with the releases of couple of special covers. The first special cover was issued in the year of 2014 during Ananthapuripex at Tiruvananthapuram. The cover depicts collage of images such as the Spacecraft launching as well as orbiting the planet Mars and the Indian Tricolour.

Two more covers were released in 2015. These covers were issued on 16th January and 27th January at Bengalore and Jaipur respectively. The special cover issued at Jaipur is based on the painting a young stundent of age 14 selected as the best painting in all Rajasthan Painting Contest. The Special Cancellation depicts line drawing of Mangalyan.
