Postal Cover and Coin to Celebrate Mother Teresa's Sainthood

On 4th September, a special postal cover and stamp would be released to celebrate Mother Teresa's sainthood in Vatican. Click here to view details about this stamp. On 2nd September, India Post would also be issuing a special postal and numismatic cover of Mother Teresa made of pure silk – the first of its kind.The 100th birth anniversary of Mother Teresa was celebrated with the issue of a five-rupee commemorative coin in 2010. 1000 India Post covers would be engraved with this coin.
The Republic of Macedonia, Teresa’s birthplace, would also release 5,000 special gold-plated silver coins worth 100 Macedonian Denars, next month. Officials have revealed that 50 of these would be available for the Indian market.
Apart from Teresa’s portrait, the coin also features a clematis flower known as "Matka Teresa" (Mother Teresa) and the Latin inscription "Sancta Teresia de Calcutta" (Saint Teresa of Calcutta).
Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia and left home as an 18-year-old to join the Sisters of Loreto. She served the poor and disabled in Kolkata for more than 40 years and has received 124 awards and distinctions, including the Nobel Peace Prize and the Bharat Ratna for all her noble services to the society.
