Antiochos I, the Greek king of the Seleucid Empire, was of mixed heritage, being half-Iranian and half-Greek. He ruled the empire from 281 BC to 261 BC. After ascending the throne, he restored much of the damage caused by invaders and rebuilt three cities.Antiochos I issued a silver tetradrachm, weighing 16.87g, which was sold for INR 22,000 at an auction in Mumbai on 13 September 2025.
The obverse of the coin features the king’s diademed portrait facing right. The reverse depicts Apollo Delphios seated left on an omphalos, testing an arrow and resting his hand on a grounded bow, with monograms on the outer left and right.
