Sher Shah Suri Mintless Silver Rupee

Sher Shah Suri ruled the Delhi Sultanate from 1538 to 1545 CE. Although his reign lasted only seven years, he produced a significant number of coins.After sitting on the throne of Delhi he introduced ‘Rupiya' with official weight of 11.66g, it was the first time under his reign that ‘Rupiya’ replaced Tanka.
Sher Shah Suri issued mintless silver and copper coins at the beginning of his reign. The mint name appeared on all his silver coins only after AH 948 and on copper coins after AH 949.
This Silver Rupee issued by Sher Shah Suri weighs 11.32g. The obverse is inscribed as ‘Al Sultan Sher Shah Khallada Allah Mulkahu. Sanah, Date and Nagari legend on margin’. The reverse is inscribed as ‘Shahada within the Circle, Names of 4 Caliph around.
