Buddha Purnima is a Buddhist festival that celebrates the birth of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. It is also known as Vesak or Buddha Jayanti. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Vaisakha, which falls in either April or May.Buddha Purnima is celebrated as the day of Buddha's enlightenment. After nearly eight years of intense ascetic practices, Gautama had become very frail. Followers of Buddha visit the holy shrines of Buddha, his birthplace and the Mahabodhi tree.
