The revolutionary who opposed kulinism, polygamy, and the dowry system, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, was born on this day in 1772. For his contributions to culture, he is referred to as the "Father of the Bengal Renaissance" and is credited with establishing Brahmo Samaj.Mughal emperor Akbar II bestowed the title of Raja upon him and he worked to outlaw sati and child marriage.
In 2023, to commemorate the "251st Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy," the India Mint released a commemorative coin valued at Rs. 250 that was struck in Kolkata.
