Julia Avita Mamaea, a Christian Syrian noblewoman, was the mother of Roman Emperor Alexander Severus. She advised him during his reign and was killed in 235 CE by rebel soldiers alongside her son.Julia Avita Mamaea was the second daughter of Julia Maesa and Gaius Julius Avitus Alexianus. She spent her childhood in Emesa (modern Homs, Syria), where her family was very powerful.
Julia Mamaea issued this Silver Denarius weighing 2.62g. The obverse features the Diademed and draped bust of Julia Avita Mamaea to the right. The reverse of the coin features Goddess Vesta standing left, holding palladium in her right hand and sceptre in her left.
