The Chalukya of Badami was the first dynasty to rule Vatapi (modern Badami) in the mid-6th century CE. They rose to power under the rule of Pulakeshin II.Extremely rare Gold Varaha – Gadyana, 3.85g of Chalukya of Badami sold for INR 425000 in an auction held in Pune on 23rd December 2023.
The obverse of the coin features standing Lion facing right, with roaring mouth and curved tail, crescent above. The reverse of the coin features Chalukya temple with short Phamsana-style Vimana and four stylized pillars. A half-lotus motif in the center suggests a Vaishnava affiliation.
