Rajaraja I, also known as Rajaraja the Great, ruled the Chola Empire from 985 CE to 1014 CE. He conquered Southern India and parts of Sri Lanka and expanded the boundaries of Chola's influence across the Indian Ocean.Rajaraja I issued this Base Gold Kahavanu, 4.38g. The obverse of the gold Kanavanu features the king reclining on a mat with the Devanagari legend 'Sri Raja Raja'. The reverse features a king standing with a torch and plant symbols with ancillary symbols.
