Remembering Mahatma Jyotirao Phule

November 28, observed as the death anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, an Indian social activist, businessman, anti-caste social, well known for his work: Annihilation of Untouchability and Empowering Women.

Mahatama Jyotirao Phule along with his wife Savitribai Phule battled for girls' education in India throughout their life. They both were the pioneers of women education in India. Mahatama Jyotirao Phule founded the first Hindu orphanage for unfortunate children. He started his first school for girls in Pune in 1848.

India Post issued a commemorative stamp on Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on 28 November 1977. This stamp has sideway Asokan Capital watermark.
