Menander I Silver Tetradrachm sold for INR 75000

Indo-Greek king Menander I Soter (The Saviour), also known as Milinda, ruled a large part of Indian Territory between the 2nd Century BC and 1st Century AD. He is considered the greatest Indo-Greek king.Menander I issued this Silver Tetradrachm of 9.62 during his rule. The obverse features a Diademed bust of the king facing to the right, the Greek legend “BACILEOC SOTEROS MENANDROY. The reverse features Athena Promachos standing left brandishing thunderbolt & aegis, monogram to left and Kharoshthi legend “MaharajasaTratarasa Menamdrasa”.
This silver tetradrachm sold for INR 75000 at the Oswal Auction held in Mumbai on 8th October 2023.
