Indo-Portuguese Joao V Silver Rupia issued in 1749

The Portuguese were the first Europeans to obtain footage in India. Taking advantage of internal rivalries among the local ruler over trade, they made their strategy, which helped them to make a significant leap in trade and commerce, which made them economically powerful enough to begin minting coins.Indo-Portuguese king Joao V issued this silver Rupia of tola weight, weighing 11.65g, dated 1749. The obverse of the coin features crowned arms, and the reverse of the coin features dates in angles of the ornamental cross.
