Agra is well known for the Taj Mahal, constructed by Shah Jahan, grandson of Akbar. Agra had acted as the principal mint of the Mughal Empire from the reign of Babar till Humayun.
Muhammad Akbar issued silver coins from Agra between 963 AH and 985 AH and gold coins from 970 AH and 989 AH. The Mint epithet Dar-ul-Khilafat appeared on gold and silver coins of Akbar between AH 976 and AH 985 and on copper coins from AH 965 and AH 989.
Akbar issued this gold mohur weighing 10.85g with the mint name Dar-ul-Khilafat Agra in the Hijri year 978.
