Remembering Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar

Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar was an renowned Indian musician best known for his bhajan Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram and also for arranging India's national song, Vande M?taram, as it is heard today. He founded Gandharva Mahavidyalaya on 5 May 1901.The original surname of Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar is Gadgil, but as he belongs to the village Palus (near Sangli), he came to be known as the "Paluskar" family. He is also credited in writing a book on music called Sangeet Bal Prakash in three volumes and 18 volumes on ragas as well.
India post issued a commemorative stamp on Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar to pay homage to him on July 21, 1973.
