Abanindranath Tagore was one of the most prominent artists in India. He was born on 7 August 1871 in Jorasanko, Calcutta. He was a supporter of Swadeshi values in India; he created first created the ‘Indian Society of Oriental Art’ and later went on to establish the Bengal school of Art.

Abanindranath Tagore is well known as a noted writer for childrens, Rajkahini, Buro Angla, Nalak, and Khirer Putul were landmarks in Bengali language.

India post issued a commemorative stamp on birth centanary of Abanindranath Tagore on August 07 1971; featuring one of his paintings Abanindranath Tagore named 'Abhisarika'.
