Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a significant figure in the Indian independence fight against British rule. He founded the “Forward Bloc” after leading the Indian National Congress. Bose is regarded as a national hero in India for his attempts to liberate the country from British control, as well as for his leadership in the Indian National Army. He died in an aircraft crash in 1945 under unexplained circumstances.India issued a postage stamp in 1997 to celebrate the birth centenary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, a key leader in the Indian independence fight. The stamp features a portrait of Bose and is printed in reddish brown with no watermark.
